India has somewhat earned a reputation as a “teetotaler” country – in which the use of alcohol is largely discouraged due to a variety of religious and social mores.
Of course, the drug is not explicitly illegal and there are some who crave and enjoy using the drug recreationally (and perhaps even habitually).
At least 120 people have now died due to a tainted batch of moonshine alcohol in the state of Kolkata, India.
The Indian government is pledging $4,000 to the family of each individual and a full investigation into the cause.
