In an story that seems too tragic  to be true, a famous rock star (Mike Todd of Coheed and Cambria) has robbed a Walgreens for OxyContin before going on stage in a stadium in Mass.

On July 10, Mike succumbed to opiate withdrawals to the point of lunacy.

On that day he actually took a taxi to Walgreens and “held up” the pharmacy by showing a bomb threat on his blackberry.  The Walgreens was in Attleboro Massachussetts and his band Coheed and Cambria was scheduled to open for Soundgarden later that inight at the Comcast Center in Mansfield Massachussetts.

Police easily tracked him down to the concert venue and arrested him prior to taking the stage.

In England  it is estimated that over a million people take ecstasy every weekend. Imagine that. Pounds of the stuff on that tiny, little island nation.

Under supervised tests done on ecstasy and its effects on the brain, doctors noticed that taking more than two tablets in a limited window of time, say 6 to 10 hours, caused detectable changes in the brain similar to those seen with people who go on to develop Parkinson’s disease.…

Creedon’s mother said, “It’s like watching your child slowly kill themselves. By the time he was 18 or 19, he had started using prescription medications like OxyContin.”

She also pointed out that it was an addiction that was not easily hidden.
“Every time he would get a job, he would go to work under the influence or he was stealing to support his habit,” said Creedon’s mother.

What bothered Creedon’s mother the most was how easy it was for Creedon to get his prescription medication. “He went from one end of this valley to …

Thanks to Craigslist, law enforcement agencies are now battling drug dealers in cyberspace.   Each month, more than 50 million free classified ads are posted on one of the Craigslist websites, which serve 570 cities in 50 countries.  Unlike ads in newspapers and magazines that are reviewed by editors, Craigslist ads are for the most part not checked for content.  This allows drug dealers to post ads for both illicit and prescription drugs.   In cities and towns across the U.S., narcotics investigators are making arrests by responding to ads that are publicly displayed on Craigslist websites.…

Gastric bypass and Lap-Band surgery are two increasingly popular procedures that are used to aid in weight loss.  A new study has found a link between gastric bypass surgery and an increased risk of alcoholism. The study’s data indicates that people who are treated with gastric bypass are more than twice as likely to later enter into treatment for alcoholism compared to those who have Lap-Band surgery.

The study, which was conducted by a team of Swedish researchers, compared the medical records of more than 12,000 formerly-obese patients who had received weight loss surgery to approximately 122,000 people who were healthy and had not had surgery.  Before weight-loss surgery, the obese patients were more likely to suffer from depression, attempted suicide and alcoholism than the healthy group.  After surgery, the presence of all of these disorders remained high, but the incidence of treatment for alcoholism was 2.3 time higher among …
