A senior writer at High Times magazine, the long-running marijuana advocacy journal, is about to face charges related being a member of one of New York’s largest marijuana rings.

High Times magazine is unique in its glorification of illegal activities including growing and using marijuana. Surprising Replacement for Methadone – More Heroin

A new study suggests that the most effective treatment for the severe forms of heroin addiction may not be giving methadone or suboxone. Instead, giving addicts therapeutic doses of heroin may keep them in treatment longer and provide more quality of life improvements.

This surprising finding is the result of a recent clinical trial in Canada that involved heroin addicts for whom conventional treatment with methadone had been unsuccessful. The test subjects were divided into two groups. Both groups were given intensive social and medical support, but one group was given heroin instead of methadone.…

The epidemic of abusing prescription drugs is most likely involved in claiming another life now that Whitney Houston has died on February 11, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

A talented singer and actress, she was beloved by millions, but still, with all of her fame and money, she wasn’t able to get the help she needed to avoid a tragic end.

Her death was not a stunning event considering her public troubles with abusing drugs over the years. But at the same time, many were in shock when they heard the news. Study Suggests LSD as Treatment for Alcoholism

Before LSD became widely used by the Woodstock generation, scientists explored the potential of using the hallucinogenic drug to treat anxiety, pain and alcoholism.

Researchers in Norway have recently revisited the question of whether LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is an effective treatment option for alcoholism.

A research team from Norway’s University of Science and Technology reviewed six U.S. studies on LSD and alcoholism conducted between 1966 and 1970. The studies included 536 people under treatment for alcoholism. One group of test subjects was given a single dose of LSD while a control group was given a stimulant, no drug or a smaller dose of LSD.…

Survey Finds that 23.5 Million Americans are Recovering from Substance Abuse

A new survey conducted by two drug agencies has found that more than 23 million U.S. adults say that they once had an alcohol or drug problem but have overcome it. That means that 10 percent of all Americans over the age of 18 are now in recovering from a substance abuse disorder.

This is a surprisingly high estimate that could indicate that the drug problem in America is more serious than previously believed.  It is even  more likely that the stigma associated with having a drug or alcohol problem is less.…

LSD Ring Busted on Philadelphia Drexel University Campus

A trio of men were arrested along with 2 students in an LSD sting in Philadelphia.

The men were selling LSD on sheets that depicted a “psychedelic” homer simpson and Jerry Garcia.

Authorities estimate the men were taking in $5,000-$15,000 a week selling acid using the campus of Drexel University as

Raphael Zappala, Joshua Wayne Dassay, and Wesley Richard Crawford were the menbusted and all appear to be in their 30s in their mug shots. The 2 students are as of yet unnamed.…

New Jersey Governor Wants to Transform Treatment of Drug Offenders

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is taking the lead on a national issue with a proposal that could change the way that state judicial systems deal with drug abuse.  In his recent State of the State Address, the governor suggested that every nonviolent offender with a serious substance abuse problem undergo mandatory treatment.  The governor then took his proposal one step further and suggested that treatment should take the place of a prison sentence.  Speaking to those who would be affected by the proposal, Governor Christie said, “We want to help you, not throw you away.  We will require you to get treatment.  Your life has value.”…
